DSC_0970_10234DSC_0918_10182DSC_0940_10204DSC_0937_10201It was a day of firsts in many ways on this first day of school.

The  twins had their first day of middle school today and Augustin is a first grader…I am home alone for an entire day for the first time since a few decades ago. . .

Come to think of it, it is a year of firsts- Ryan had his first day of college this fall already…

Whew!

And, my first grader, comparing him to when Rachel started first grade – Rachel was in tears when I was dropping her off  and her friend Meredith consoled her. Meredith with the colorful bows in her hair made Rachel feel so at home in Mrs. McLain’s class. . .  but Augustin in Ms. Shannon’s class  today was like, Okay Mom, you can leave now. . . so independent, so wanting to be on his own. . .I told him I needed one photograph so he obliged me then said I needed to go now.. . .

So, I went to see my twins at Rosmont… it was so fun to watch them  with their schedules and seeing what classes they had and which students were in there.

So, I hung out at my kids’ schools as long as they would let me and then went out to lunch on Division in Southeast Portland at this amazing independent eatery…I am needing to spend as much time with my daughter before she goes back to the fatherland and I get back to buckling down and back to work here….

Of course, with 5 children there is always work, trust me. Just managing this household, but I am wanting to re-evaluate how I am spending my days and re-evalulating my writing and teaching and editing goals…

In the mean time, it is dinner hour on this first day of school. . . have it started but need to finish…got side tracked once again . . . just had to write, just felt compelled to write, to reflect for a brief moment on this day of firsts…
