How he got started: “I used to run around slaying invisible orcs (invisible warriors in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings), now I just run around in races.”

Why he chose his sport: “Running is competition at its purest essence.”

Favorite meal the night before the big event: “A big plate of mama’s spaghetti.”

Off-season? “None.”
