Liu Xiaobo, a poet and literary critic, is a leader in China’s pro-democracy movement, and serving an 11- year prison term for his words. Two other Nobel Peace 
Laureates have been under arrest at the time of their awards – Carl von Ossietzky and Aung San Suu Kyi.
Liu Xiaobo’s imprisonment is for “inciting subversion of state power,” for statements he wrote in essays. He is demanding increased human rights and political reforms in China.
