I met Karen Spears Zacharias last April when she joined us at the 2013 Faith & Culture Writers Conference and loved her energy, passion, drive, heart and writing! I have wanted her to speak to our group for a while! I am so happy to be able to announce that she is set to speak at our Thursday Oct. 17 Writers Connection! As usual, we meet at 7 p.m. at Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin, Oregon in the East Atrium.
Karen learned the craft of storytelling from her Appalachian ancestors. Karen’s father, Stf. Sgt. David P. Spears, was KIA in Vietnam. Karen teaches journalism at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wa.. Her work has been featured in Good Morning America, Huffington Post, New York Times, USA Today, CNN and National Public Radio. Mother of Rain is her sixth book and her first novel. Karen, a popular speaker and a contributing blogger at patheos.com, says, “Writing is not my hobby. It’s what I was created to do.”
Besides Mother Rain, she has written five other books, including Will Jesus Buy Me a Double-Wide?: (Cause I Need More Room for My Plasma TV); Where’s Your Jesus Now?: Examining How Fear Erodes Our Faith; and A Silence of Mockingbirds: The Memoir of a Murder. Her website is: Karen Spears Zacharias Website
