I’ve always been so upset when I hear about the one child per family law and forced
abortion and abandoned girls in China because everyone wants their boy to pass on the family name. And here in America you hear of happy stories of families adopting children from orphanages in China, rescuing these poor children.
Now today’s cover story in The Oregonian brings more injustice into the situation. It is reported that some families are not abandoning their children due to the one child law, but instead children are being taken away from mothers and then the children are sold for a high price adoption.
I cannot even imagine having some authority figure come to my house and rip my child out of my arms saying I will not be fined for having more than one child if I give the child up. Chinese women are devastated as today’s story
And this is being done apparently without the government approval, but the “authorities” from the family planning center who arrive are telling the mothers that they are by law supposed to give up their children.
This whole situation of course goes back to forced family planning law imposed by the communist government of China and the forced abortion law is outrageous. Women having to hide being pregnant.
What can be done about these injustices which people in the United States cannot hardly imainge. ?
People adopting Chinese children in the United States may need to ask more questions and I am sure that the adoptive parents would be outraged if they thought that a child they were adopting may have been forced away from the birth mother.
Here is a link to the story in the LA Times as I could not find it on the Oregonian’s website –
