Name: Braden Krellwitz
Age: 18
Grade/school: Senior, West Linn High School
Sport: Varsity wrestling
Coach: Doug Samarron
Highlights: “Our team recently won both the David Douglas (High School) tournament and the Tigard tournament. Best personal accomplishment was that I took third place at state (championships) in the 132-pound category. And, after losing to Vagif Afrasov of David Douglas in a dual match earlier in the season, I beat him at state.”
How he got started: “I started wrestling in sixth grade at Rosemont Ridge Middle School. Both of my older brothers and my dad wrestled for West Linn High School so it was kind of a tradition. I stuck with it for the life lessons it provides and because it is fun at times.”
Coach’s advice: “Your friends are like elevators: They either bring you up or bring you down. Choose wisely.”
Favorite part of sport: “Winning a hard-fought match.”
Favorite meal the night before the big match: “A couple of tasty chicken breasts artfully cooked by my dad, or I make myself an omelet.”
Offseason? “I run cross country in the fall to stay in shape for wrestling.”
Rules to live by: “Failure is not fatal, success is not final, it is the courage to continue that counts.”
On his iPod: MGMT, Muse, Cake, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
On his nightstand: “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming” by Stephen LaBerge and Howard Rheingold
The one thing someone may not know about him: “I like cats.”
What’s next? “After graduation I plan to take some time off to travel.”
