I received an email note from Lou Bailey, the principal at West Linn High School this morning regarding the death yesterday of West Linn High freshman Sierra Grill.
Our community mourns with this family. Such a tragic loss, I cannot even imagine the pain this family is going through.
We live in a very small community and word is spreading about this sudden death.
A Facebook memorial page has been created, which students can ask to join. (see link at the bottom of this post)
I spoke with a friend of mine who knows the family and said that Sierra was bullied at school. We do not know if this is why she took her own life. I do not understand the pain that this 14-year-old felt that would make her feel like it was not worth living anymore. As my friend said, it is so final.
I want to tell this girl that this is such a short time in your life, high school, and in the end, high school does not matter or being popular does not matter. And I want to tell people who bully others that they need to stop the meanness. Accept everyone. Love.
I pray for God’s grace and peace for this dear family during such an incredible loss.
Memorial Service for her is set for Monday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at River West Church in Lake Oswego-located at 2000 West Country Club in Lake Oswego. Sierra was a youth group member there.

I am so sorry for your loss. I’m sure she was an amazing girl and this is terrible to hear. As a 14 year old girl myself, I can’t imagine losing someone so close!! The family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Too bad she was forced to go to that school.
Sierra was one of my only friends. We had played softball together I wish I could of been there to tell her everything was going to be alright. She was such an amazing girl and she will be dearly missed. I worked with her little brother and I know he misses her too
Jacky- so sorry for your loss
She was one of my best friends. I still don’t believe that she’s gone. 🙁
I was bullied in school and became so depressed in middle school that I contemplated suicide on a number of occasions. I do understand the pain that a young girl can feel and it breaks my heart. High School can be such a miserable time in a child’s life and it can take years to overcome the pain caused by bullies. Makes me so sad to hear stories like this one. I’ll definitely keep the family in my prayers.
Donna- my heart too breaks and continues to break for this precious family-
Cornelia
My heart breaks For her family.God bless them
My heart just breaks.So Sad.
Mikaela- I know the family really appreciates your prayers. There are no words to express the pain. Regarding suicide and what the Bible says, I do not read that in God’s word. I do hope you and I can talk more about this. God is a loving God and He grieves alongside this sweet family-
This is so incredibly sad. I am praying for her family, and their loss. I never knew her, but I know she used to go to rosemont so i’m sure a lot of kids knew her from there. That’s really sad. I can’t bear to feel her pain… We just hope she’s in a better place now, but isn’t it if you commit suicide you go to Hell? at least that’s what the bible said.. Prayers for her family and I feel so bad that the bullying got this far. I agree. She does have a whole life ahead of her and she wouldn’t get bullied after high school. Bless her sweet heart and let her rest in peace…
Beautifully said, Cornelia. I have no words, just an incredible sorrow for her family and for our community… May her parents, family, and friends eventually find some comfort and peace in knowing that so many of us mourn Sierra’s passing. And may her tiny, bright light, shine on in the night sky.
Lynne.
Valerie- I just felt compelled to write – It is so heartbreaking. . . . reminds us to go out and reach out to people. smile. make a difference.
Jennie- it is hard to understand why. My heart aches as well.
Casey- thank you for writing. The entire community shares in the loss this family is experiencing. Devastating.
Cornelia, thank you for the quick post. I have many teens on FB and it’s been a long day of heartbreaking posts. The story will eventually come out. If it was bullying, it will ring true with so many people who have experienced the same. If not, it is still a tragedy.
My heart aches for her family and friends. God bless their understanding of why.
My heart goes out to her family and friends. So sad.
