This month’s Run/Walk for the White Oak Savanna fundraiser brought in $1,500 and race organizer Roberta Schwarz, West Linn’s White Oak Savanna preservationist, could not be more satisfied.
“We are really happy,” said Schwarz, who noted that 60 participants came to the event at the Rosemont Ridge Middle School track. “We have talked to several people in the running community who said this is a good first year.”
She said entire families attended and the age range was from babies in strollers to people in their 70s.
There were 14 winners among the runners and 14 winners among the walkers, Schwarz said, and 40 supporters donated $1,800 worth of prizes.
“One woman, Kathie Halicki, made 15 loaves of handmade bread, zucchini bread, banana bread, pumpkin bread, and there was not one crumb left,” Schwarz said.
Michael Browne, whose entire family of six participated, won the 5K run, she said.
The event was co-sponsored by the City of West Linn.
“The entire event was so satisfying,” Schwarz said. “There was a lot of work that went into this, and to see so many have such a great time, to see families there together — it was a very happy, happy day.
“I am hoping the City will say yes to making this an annual event.”
